Went for a drive up a local mountain and found what we call snow in Australia.

Yeah I know it's a poor excuse for snow but it is what it is. The car actually predicted it!

Wow, you guys have more snow than us. We had ‘snow’ in Auckland recently, but I missed it all (because I slept in!).

Yeah this was in a very localised area about an hour and half from Melbourne. A few years ago we had a cold snap on Christmas day, it felt cold enough for snow so we went up the same Mountain and found it had had a pretty good dump of snow! In summer FFS!

Shit yeah! They make awesome trucks, like actual trucks not utes although they make awesome utes as well as this wagon. They released the MU-X in 2013 I believe. The engine in it has a B10 rateing which means they expect 90% of these engines to cover 500,000 km, hope we don’t have one of the 10%

Is that based on the Trailblazer?

We call it both. The take home here is that you don’t need to subtitle it for us. We know what the word means :)

Really, the only thing we need subtitles for are things that are uniquely Australian. For instance, your average American isn’t going to know what a “bogan” is, though it’s usually evident with a little context.

Is the trailblazer based on the ISUZU? Yes. ;)

If the trailblazer is the same as the aussie Holden Colarado 7 it shares the chassis, roof tin/sub frame and that’s it. ISUZU uses its own (superior)engine, an AISIN auto(also used in some Toyota LC models) different suspension design and construction, ISUZU has a 5 link live axle set up and the Holden has 3 link live axle. Completely different interiors and outer sheet metal including door skins, rear quarters, tailgate, tail lights, the list goes on. It's not the usual badge engineering job by any means.

The Holden has had a lot of reports of head gasket failures as well as auto trans issues, ISUZU had people complaining that the GPS mapping was out of date.

Fair enough, in my defence I’ve been celebrating my bday :)

I know there are different spellings for some words between our countries as well as meanings. Personal favourite for the different meanings is ‘Fanny’ hee hee.

I shall subtitle more carefully in future, thanks

Just looked it up, the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Isuzu MU-X, and Holden Colorado 7 share a platform. And the only difference seems to be in the engine bay. They all seem to have a 5-link rear.

Not so in Australia at least, GM vs ISUZU has many differences. I'm busy now but I'll get the facts together for you. It's true I tell ya!

If you looked on wiki it’s a bit vague. Here’s a comparison between the Holden and Isuzu;

Yeah the wiki is vague but other things I've been seeing point to all having 5-link. The main differences are the engine/tranny, some interior bits, and the front and rear facias. Enough differences, sure.

It’s definitely more than that. All exterior sheet metal, apart from roof skin, is different even the fuel filler door! The Holden definitely has a 3 link set up and the differential is not the same plus it has a different front suspension design. Interior share basic design/layout but don’t have many if any shared components. Yes the drive lines are completely different. I spent a lot of time trying to work out the differences between these two recently, I was amazed at how much was not shared between the models as I was expecting more similarities.

It was the ISUZU that came out in front for my needs and it seems to be kicking arse in the sales figures as well so I’m not the only one that noticed. The fact they are out selling the Holden is interesting in itself, ISUZU hasn’t had a passenger car under its own badge in Australia since the early 70’s so in this market its a ‘New’ badge to most people. Holden sold a lot of rebadged ISUZU vehicles until recently but since the split have had issues with the mechanical side of things. ISUZU has sold larger trucks for a long time here so the name is well known just not in passenger vehicles so much.

Ok, just got back from wiping the egg off my face! I stand corrected, 5 link for eveyone! I was getting confused by another Holden, the Captiva has a 4 link rear end, still not a 3 link. I'm a fool.

Cool, glad I didn’t use words like ‘definitely’...cough

Still as one reviewer said “there’s enough differences between them to view them as two different vehilces”.

It’s a shame the Holden(and maybe chev?) are having the engine and trans issues.

You must be hearing this from other people, I cant seem to find much on it to be honest. Not saying you are wrong, I just cant find any info. I'm curious because the Colorado may be something I get to replace my current truck in a few years (especially if gas gets really expensive again).

Couple of links to stuff and some screen shots of some complaints. I’m not bashing them as such I just found this out while extensively researching new vehicles recently. Another early contender that got dumped was the new Cherokee Trailhawk, that’s having auto issues. I just couldn’t find anything bad about the MU-X, it's not like I'm a fan boy or anything and I actually didn't really think much of it until all the research.
